Let’s Glow: Your OPI Essential Kit
Every flawless Intelli-Gel manicure starts long before colour hits the nail. For pros, the secret is simple: prep well, apply with intention, and finish beautifully. Here’s your step-by-step guide to the OPI must haves I keep in my kit -and why they matter.
1. PREP- Start with great tools!
It’s true what they say: a bad workman always blames his tools! That’s why great prep starts with professional quality implements and we’re huge fans of the Katie Barnes tool range for precision, comfort, and durability. Once your cuticles and shape are perfected, it’s time to prep the nail plate for Intelli-Gel:
This perfects the surface, balances pH, and creates the ideal foundation for long lasting adhesion.
2. ALL ABOUT THE BASE
Every client’s nails are different - so choosing the right base is key.
- OPI Super Base: Ideal for strong, healthy nails (UK&IE)
- OPI Stay Strong: A supportive option for clients who need extra strength or longevity (UK Only)
- OPI Super Strong: A supportive option for clients who need extra strength or longevity (IE Only)
PRO TIP: Assess your client’s natural nails before you prep — after prep they will naturally look dehydrated. Whichever base you choose, remember: Apply THIN, follow OPI protocol, and cure for 30 seconds in the OPI Star Light Lamp.
3. COLOUR- The fun part!
Now for the magic. Apply two coats of your chosen Intelli-Gel shade:
- Cure 30 seconds between coats
- Use your first coat to map out neatness and "kiss" the cuticle- don’t touch or flood!
- Your second coat delivers full, even coverage
4. TOP IT OFF
Seal your masterpiece with your choice of:
PRO TIP: Float the top coat over the cured colour- don’t drag your brush.
5. FINISHING PRODUCTS
Once your top coat is cured, cleanse the nail with N.A.S. 99 to remove the tacky layer. Finish with Nature Strong Glow Up Nail & Cuticle Oil to hydrate, nourish, and add that healthy post service glow.
